Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao has come under scrutiny again after allegations surfaced that he assaulted a schoolteacher in his constituency. The complaint, brought forward by Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Board Chairman Pothula Balakotaiah, accuses the Tiruvuru legislator of summoning and abusing a Physical Education Teacher (PET) at his residence on September 25.

Balakotaiah's letter to TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao details that Kolikapudi allegedly called Merugu Ramesh, a PET at Zilla Parishad High School in Narasapuram village, to his home. There, the MLA is said to have verbally abused and struck Ramesh with a stick. The complaint also notes that both Ramesh and the school's headmistress, who was also reportedly summoned, belong to the Scheduled Caste community.

According to Balakotaiah, the incident was prompted by the school's decision to invite a local TDP leader, rather than Kolikapudi, as chief guest for a recent sports event. He claims the MLA used the Deputy District Educational Officer (Dy. DEO) to summon the staff and then confronted them over the invitation. Balakotaiah has urged the party leadership to take swift action, arguing that such behaviour harms the TDP's public image as well as the government's reputation.

Kolikapudi, however, has firmly denied the allegations. He contends that his meeting with the school staff was to address concerns about the school's functioning. The MLA claims that PET Ramesh had previously assaulted another teacher and had sent girl students to events without proper supervision. Kolikapudi also pointed to the school's poor performance in last year's Class X exams, where half the students failed, to justify his intervention. He stated, "I did not beat or assault anyone. I did not ill-treat anyone."

The case relates to ongoing tensions in the Tiruvuru constituency, where Kolikapudi has previously been involved in disputes, including public disagreements with Vijayawada MP Kesineni Chinni. The MLA and Chinni were recently seen at the same event during Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar’s visit to Tiruvuru, but reportedly kept their distance.

The allegations against Kolikapudi remain unproven, and no formal charges have been filed. The complaint is now with the TDP leadership for consideration.

The move assumes significance as it raises questions about internal discipline within the TDP and the party's handling of controversies involving its own legislators.
