Former YSR Congress Party leader and ex-Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy has sharply criticised YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, claiming that Jagan's professed love for the people is not genuine. Speaking to reporters in Visakhapatnam, Sai Reddy argued that Jagan's main motivation is to regain power, not to serve the public.
Sai Reddy accused the YSRCP leadership of using him for political gain before sidelining him after the party came to power. He alleged that Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, former YSRCP general secretary, played a key role in damaging his reputation within the party. According to Sai Reddy, conspiracies and misinformation led to his marginalisation within three months of the party's electoral victory.
He also criticised Jagan's shifting stance on the state capital issue. Sai Reddy recalled that the YSRCP had promised to develop Visakhapatnam as the capital but later changed its position. He said, "Those who once said Visakhapatnam would be the capital are now talking about Mavigun. Jagan should apologise to the people for going back on his promise to develop Visakhapatnam."
Sai Reddy clarified that he does not oppose Amaravati as the capital, but questioned the party's inconsistency. He further challenged whether the current YSRCP leadership could secure a win in the upcoming Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections.
Addressing allegations about his involvement in a liquor scam, Sai Reddy denied any role and claimed that Raj Kasireddy was responsible for the episode. He stated he had shared all relevant information with investigating authorities.
Sai Reddy announced plans to launch a new political party soon, followed by a state-wide padayatra. He argued that Andhra Pradesh needs a third alternative to the YSRCP and TDP, alleging both parties have become family-centric organisations. Sai Reddy also expressed a strong emotional connection to North Andhra and Visakhapatnam, highlighting his ties to the region and Andhra University.
He raised concerns about the allocation of 54.79 acres of land, valued at around ₹5,000 crore, to GITAM, questioning the justification for such a move. Sai Reddy also criticised the ongoing dispute between YSRCP and TDP over credit for development projects in Visakhapatnam, including the airport and technology investments.
The YSRCP leadership has not responded to Sai Reddy's latest allegations. These remain his claims; no official rebuttal or legal action has been reported in response.
The move assumes significance as Sai Reddy's entry could reshape the political landscape ahead of the GVMC elections and intensify the debate over the state's capital and development priorities.
